The College of Health Care Professions Austin Campus is one of seven Texas campuses of the College of Health Care Professions (CHCP).[1]

CHCP specializes in education and training for careers in health care and is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).[2] Courses of study offered on the Austin Campus include an associate degree (AAS) program and several professional certificate programs. CHCP also offers online degree, certificate and Continuing Education (CE) programs to students in Texas and 19 additional U.S. states.[3]

History[edit]

CHCP was founded in 1988. In 2002 CHCP acquired Career Advancement Center, which became its Austin Campus. In 2004, CHCP Austin moved to its current location on Airport Boulevard.[4]

Austin Campus-based programs include:

  • Diagnostic Medical Sonography AAS
    • Program Objective: Preparation for entry-level employment as an Ultrasound Technician.
    • Designed Program Length: 96 weeks (6 semesters)
    • Practicum/Externship: Required
  • Dental Assistant Certificate
    • Program Objective: Training to assist Dentists and Hygienists with procedures, cleanings and maintaining patient records.
    • Designed Program Length: 35 weeks
    • Practicum/Externship: Required
  • Limited Medical Radiologic Technologist
    • Program Objective: Training to take quality patient X-rays for use in diagnosis.
    • Designed Program Length: 35 weeks
    • Practicum/Externship: Required
  • Medical Assistant Certificate
    • Program Objective: Preparation to assist doctors and patients by taking vital signs and EKGs, drawing blood for testing and performing administrative/billing/reception tasks.
    • Designed Program Length: 35 weeks
    • Practicum/Externship: Required
  • Pharmacy Technician Certificate
    • Program Objective: Preparation to assist licensed Pharmacists with measuring and labeling prescription medications, managing inventory, and more.
    • Designed Program Length: 9 months
    • Practicum/Externship: Required
  • Physical Therapy Technician Certificate
    • Program Objective: Preparation to assist licensed Physical Therapists, Physicians, Athletic Trainers, Chiropractors or other Rehabilitation Professionals in treating patients recovering from trauma or adapting to a disability.
    • Designed Program Length: 10 months
    • Practicum/Externship: Required

Campus[edit]

CHCP’s Austin Campus is located in Airport Center, on the corner of Airport Blvd. and Highland Mall Blvd., two blocks northwest of the IH-35 and US 290. It is accessible by MetroRail, MetroRapid and MetroBus.[5][6][7]
