Colombian Yuyu
Yuyu is a term used to designate some magical-religious practices of the traditional religion of West Africa. The term yuyu also refers to the use of objects to perform magical acts or witchcraft. The origin is uncertain, since it could derive directly from an African language or have passed through French. The term yuyu and the practices associated with it were brought to the Americas from Africa by slaves. These practices are still alive in some areas of the American continent, mainly on the Pacific coast of Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela. In Colombia, Yuyu is a religion that originates from Dahomey Mythology and believes in spirits of nature, spirits of the elements, the ancestors, and fetishes are used. Some practitioners syncretize it with Catholicism.
