Comfy synth is a collective name for a electronic subgenre derived from dungeon synth and dark ambient music. The style was originated around December 2019 with artists such as Grandma's Cottage, Childhood Memories, The Friendly Moon and Tiny Mouse etc. Unlike dungeon synth, it sounds happy, lighthearted and nostalgic. It wants to evoke feelings and atmospheres of a treasured past lost and gone (childhood, youth, family, fairy tales, country life).

The expressive style has been around longer than Comfy Synth as a subgenre and its main inspiration can be found in earlier classics such as Mort Garson Mother Earth's Plantasia, but also in early video game music.
