Comosoft is an international developer of enterprise software for retailers, manufacturers, and agencies. Its database and workflow software are used to produce multi-version print and online catalogs, circulars, and flyers.[1]

Operations and Ownership

Comosoft GmbH is headquartered in Hamburg, Germany, where the product is developed. Comosoft GmbH provides product integration services and support for customers in Europe. Comosoft Inc., headquartered in Frisco, Texas, provides integration and support for North and South America.

History

Comosoft is a privately held company, founded in 1994.[2] In 2000, the company opened a second location in Frisco, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. In 2014, it was acquired by Eversfrank Group,[3] a privately-owned media company headquartered in Meldorf, Germany, as part of Eversfrank Group’s expansion into the North American print market.[4]

Product

The company’s product, LAGO, is a combination of [[Product information management|product information management (PIM)],] [[Digital asset management|digital asset management (DAM)],] other database management technologies, and plugin software for page layout and design applications.

The function of LAGO is to automate the printed and digital output production of retail catalogs, circulars, other marketing collateral, and manufacturer catalogs. Output can be customized or personalized using customer demographic and other data for conventional and variable data printing applications.

The LAGO application uses a centralized database and a set of application services to manage content (product images, descriptive copy, and marketing copy) and its relation to product attributes (product names, product groups, SKU identifiers, size and color variations, and pricing) and media usage information. The LAGO databases and applications are typically integrated with a retailer’s or manufacturer’s other IT systems.[5]

Operators use LAGO’s desktop and Web-based application services to create, manage, and schedule collateral projects and campaigns for print and e-commerce output. Product data, including PIM and related DAM data, are selected and assigned to specific pages, using a Web-based whiteboarding application. Integrated, third-party marketing, inventory management, and sales databases can be used to prioritize products used in a project or campaign.

During page production, product data groupings or blocks are placed in pre-designed InDesign templates, using a plugin. Layouts can be subsequently modified by the page designer. Regional or language variants can be generated, using localized data for each product. The system records which product SKUs were used in each project or campaign and, where the final output is online, tracks consumer interaction with each product.

Technology Partnerships

As a Technology Partner[6] of Adobe Inc. (formerly Adobe Systems), Comosoft has developed plugins for Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop, and is a licensee of Adobe InDesign Server. The company also has development partnerships with Oracle Corporation and Magento.

Utilization

LAGO is a commercial system and is for sale as a solution configured on site according to requirements and provides the required licenses accordingly.

Market

LAGO software is currently (2019) used by approximately 70 companies and organizations. Customers include businesses engaged in multichannel retail sales, catalog publishing, manufacturing, and by agencies serving such businesses. The system is currently used by:
