Compass Coffee
Compass Coffee is an American coffee roaster and cafe chain based in Washington, D.C. It was founded in 2014 by Michael Haft and Harrison Suarez, and currently has five existing locations and one active roasting facility.
History and growth[edit]
Haft and Suarez, both native Washingtonians, decided to begin the company following their return to the city after leaving active duty in the Marine Corps. The flagship cafe opened in July 2014 in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington. This location also houses the company’s main roaster and production center as well as offices.[1]. Following the first location, Compass built another cafe in the same neighborhood, opening in September, 2015[2]. In the ensuing 16 months Compass opened three more shops in DC, and as of August 2017 is in the process of adding 3 additional locations in the District and another, larger roasting and packaging plant in Northeast D.C[3][4]. The first cafe outside the District of Columbia is also under construction in the Washington suburb of Rosslyn, Virginia[5]
