Computer Tycoon is a simulation strategy video game by the solo developer Progorion.[1] The player plays as a 19-year-old entrepreneur who creates a computer company in 1974. The game’s main objective is to create computers. There are three ways to beat the game: technological singularity, becoming a monopoly, or reaching the year 2034, when the CEO of the company (the player) dies.
Gameplay
When the game starts, the player is greeted with a “skill menu” and they can select their player skills (that can be rolled randomly, or, in the beta build, can be set manually with a 200 point quota). The player sets the skill levels for the CEO and his assistant. They start in a garage (perhaps referencing Hewlett-Packard having been founded in one) and you have to set up different “sites” in countries – Research Facilities are cheapest in “Filthy Rich” markets, meanwhile Factories are cheapest in Poverty markets. The player also has to manage Logistics Points, Production Points, and Research Points. Logistics Points are transferred to different markets to sell in them, Production Points are needed to manufacture computers, and Research Points control the length of time it takes to research new technology. When the player has built sites and moved enough Logistics Points to a market, then they can create their first computer. The initial technology is limited – the player can only create something reminiscent of an Altair 8800 at the beginning, but researching more technology will allow them to create more advanced computers.
