The IEEE International Conference on Software Engineering Education and Training (CSEE&T) [1] is an international scientific event on Software Engineering Education that had its first edition in 1987 at Monroeville, Pennsylvania, USA. It presents and publishes original research papers on ideas, methods and techniques for software engineering education as well as education experience and industrial training reports.[2] Topics include all fields of software engineering education, including university education at the graduate and undergraduate levels, industrial training, as well as teaching software engineering in secondary schools.

The conference was founded in 1987 by Norman E. Gibbs as an internal conference of the Software Engineering Institute. After several years it transitioned to IEEE Computer Society sponsorship under the leadership of its first steering committee chair, Nancy Mead.

Software Engineering Education

The IEEE Computer Society recommended the SWEBOK as the body of knowledge that is required from a graduate software engineer with 4 years of experience, the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge[3] and the Joint Task Force on Computing Curricula of the IEEE Computer Society and the Association for Computing Machinery published a standard international curriculum for undergraduate software engineering degrees, the Software Engineering 2004.[4] In accordance with these two standards, the CSEE&T Steering Committee proposed a Researcher's Guide to promote better software engineering education research.[5] (content partially copied from Software Engineering; see that page's history for attribution)

CSEE&T gives the Nancy Mead Award for Excellence in Software engineering Education.[1] Awardees have included Mary Shaw (2010), Tom Hilburn (2011), Dennis J. Frailey (2013), Don Bagert (2014), Barry Boehm (2015), Dick Fairley (2016), David Garlan (2017) and Pierre Bourque (2020).
