Congenica was first incorporated in 2012.[1] Congenica develops and markets products and services for the interpretation of human genomic data with a focus on rare disease and was built upon technologies developed by the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute.

Congenica was chosen by Genomics England to provide clinical interpretation services for the 100,000 Genomes Project along with three other companies in 2015[2][3][4]. The company was selected by Genomics England in its Small Business Research Initiative Phase Two assessment on Enabling Technologies for Genomics Sequence Data Analysis and Interpretation[5].

Sapientia Congenica’s product Sapientia assists in the interpretation of genetic mutations found in human genomes to facilitate a clinical diagnosis.

Practical Applications Application of the Sapientia technology includes genetic clinical laboratories and medical hospitals, such as Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine (MCGM)[6][7] and the PAGE research project with Birmingham Women’s Foundation Trust and the University College Hospital Foundation Trust[8].
