Connecticut Veteran Legal Center is an independent 501(c)(3) organization, incorporated in the state of Connecticut in 2009. It provides free civil legal aid to veterans living in Connecticut who meet certain income thresholds. It also provides legal aid for veterans during administrative processes against the United States Department of Veteran Affairs, including Discharge Upgrades. Connecticut Veterans Legal Center also supports select policy and policy research initiatives that aim to correct evidence of systemic inequity and injustice within the VA and United States Department of Defense.

History and Organizational Background[edit]

Connecticut Veterans Legal Center was co-founded by attorneys Margaret Middleton[1] and Howard Udell[2]. Initial funding was provided by The Arthur Liman Center for Public Interest Law [1](Yale Law School).

It is the first Medical-Legal Partnership established in partnership with the Veterans Health Administration, with it's first office co-located at the Errera VA Clinic/Errera Community Care Center in West Haven, Connecticut. They are now also co-located[3] at VA Health Clinics in Orange, CT and Newington, CT and work with community-based organizations.
