Connie Chan

Connie Chan (born October 3, 1978) is an American public figure in San Francisco, California. She is currently a candidate for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to represent District 1, largely encompassing the Richmond District. Chan previously served as an aide to numerous public figures, including then-District Attorney (now Senator) Kamala Harris and Supervisors Sophie Maxwell and Aaron Peskin.[1]

Career[edit]

Connie served as an aide to District 10 Supervisor Sophie Maxwell from (2006-2007). There, she helped residents fight to close the Potrero Generating Station power plant, a major polluter.[2]

Chan then worked for then-San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris, working to provide language access and cultural competency in serving monolingual and immigrant communities.

She’s also previously worked as an aide to Supervisor Aaron Peskin, as a spokeswoman for City College of San Francisco and at the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department.[3] She is currently a staff person for Assemblyman Kevin Mullin, D-San Mateo. [4]

In July, 2019, Chan began writing regular columns for the San Francisco Examiner.[5]

After incumbent Supervisor Sandra Lee Fewer announced she would not seek reelection, Chan announced her candidacy. She was immediately endorsed by Fewer and was joined by the two prior District Supervisors, Eric Mar and Jake McGoldrick.

Personal life[edit]

Chan was born in Hong Kong and arrived in San Francisco at age 13. At the time, she spoke no English. However, Chan went on to graduate from Galileo High School and later UC Davis.

Connie’s longtime partner, Ed, is a San Francisco Firefighter. They have a 7-year-old son, Edo.[6]
