Conor Shanahan (born 10 June 2003) is an Irish professional drift driver who competes in the Drift Masters European Championship (DMEC) and Formula Drift (FD). He is a two-time Drift Masters European Champion (2023, 2025) and currently drives for Jerry Yang Racing (JYR) in the United States.[1][2]
Shanahan rose to international prominence as a teenager, becoming noted for an aggressive driving style and his success in high-horsepower Toyota platforms.[3] He is the younger brother of fellow professional drifter and multi-time champion, Jack Shanahan.
Professional drifting career
Breakthrough and early years (2018–2022)
Shanahan made his international debut in the DMEC in 2018 at the age of 15. In his first event in Płock, Poland, he defeated reigning champion James Deane to take the overall victory, becoming the youngest driver to win a professional European drifting event.[4]
Drift Masters dominance (2023–2025)
In 2023, Shanahan secured his first European title, clinching the championship with a final-round victory at the PGE Narodowy in Warsaw in front of a record crowd of 53,000 spectators.[5]
He repeated this feat in 2025, winning his second DMEC title at the same venue in Warsaw. This second title was secured during the final round in Warsaw after his primary rival, Piotr Więcek, suffered a mechanical failure in the Top 32; Shanahan ultimately won the event itself by defeating James Deane and Pawel Korpulinski in the final brackets.[6]
Formula Drift (2024–present)
Shanahan entered the American Formula Drift PRO Championship as a rookie in 2024. Competing in a BMW E36, he earned his first major U.S. victory at Round 3 in Orlando Speed World.[7]
For the 2026 season, he joined Jerry Yang Racing (JYR), transitioning to a Toyota GT86 supported by Red Bull and GT Radial.[3] He began the 2026 season with a win on the Streets of Long Beach, notably sharing the podium with his brother Jack.[2]
Personal life
Shanahan was born in Killavullen, County Cork, Ireland, into a family with deep roots in Irish motorsport.[3] His father, John, was a rally champion, and his mother, Valerie, was the first Irish woman to win a national Autograss championship.[4]
Influenced by his older brother Jack, Shanahan began competing in drifting at age nine.[4] The brothers now frequently compete against one another in both European and American professional series.[2]
