Constantine Bourtzes
Constantine Bourtzes (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist.; fl. 1025) was a Byzantine aristocrat associated with a failed conspiracy against Emperor Constantine VIII following the death of emperor Basil II.
He was blinded by the emperor as punishment.[1]
Family
Constantine belonged to the Bourtzes (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist.) family, a prominent military aristocratic clan active in the eastern provinces of the empire during the 10th and 11th centuries. The family first became famous through Michael Bourtzes, who played a major role in the Byzantine reconquest of Antioch in 969 during the reign of Nikephoros II Phokas.
