Constitutional Research Committee

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Constitutional Research Committee was an organization established by the National Diet, the Cabinet of Japan, and the political parties of Japan to study, research, and deliberate on the Constitution of Japan.

Both Houses of Parliament

The constitutional investigative committees of each house of the Diet were established as separate committee-like organizations in the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors.

It was abolished with the establishment of the Constitutional Review Board as the successor organization in both Houses on August 7, 2007, due to partial amendments to the Diet Act.

Cabinet

The Constitutional Commission of the Cabinet was established by the Cabinet on June 11, 1956, under the provisions of the Constitutional Commission Law. It consists of a total of no more than 50 members (of which no more than 30 are Diet members and no more than 20 are academics), and one chairman and two vice chairmen are elected by the members from among themselves. The committee was abolished on June 3, 1965, after submitting the "Report of the Constitutional Commission" to the Cabinet and the Diet on July 3, 1964, effectively ending its activities.
