Contentsquare is a digital analytics company that provides an Artificial Intelligence-powered digital platform which captures and analyzes visitors’ behavior to find errors or issues within a website or app that are giving users a sub-optimal experience. Contentsquare’s platform uses data visualizations such as zone analysis, customer journey analysis, heatmaps and session replay to help businesses understand the impact of these errors and issues. Additional insight is provided by the company’s customer experience (CX) and user experience (UX) analysts.

History

Contentsquare was founded in 2012 by French entrepreneur Jonathan Cherki.[1] As a college assignment, Cherki began developing the digital performance measurement technology that would later become Contentsquare. The company now comprises seven global offices in Paris, London, New York, Tel Aviv, Munich, San Francisco and Tokyo.[2]

In June 2019, Contentsquare announced the acquisition of eMerchandising pricing platform Pricing Assistant.[3] One week later, it was announced that Contentsquare was acquiring its largest competitor, Clicktale.[4] The terms of both acquisitions were not disclosed.

As of April 2020, the company employs 600 staff worldwide. The platform has over 12,000 users from over 700 global clients and analyzes more than 9 trillion consumer interactions each day. Contentsquare’s client list includes T-Mobile, Dell, Royal Bank of Scotland, MetLife, Crocs, Pizza Hut and Renault.[5]

Having started in France, 40% of the company’s business is now in the United States and 50% in Europe, including strong adoption across France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Nordics.[6]

Company structure and fundraising

Contentsquare has been a privately-owned business since its inception in 2012, and founder Jonathan Cherki remains as Chief Executive. The company has raised over $120 million in funding from Eurazeo, Canaan, Highland Europe, H14 and KKR, the latter through the acquisition of Clicktale.[7]

  • Seed funding (2012) – $430,000[8]
  • Series A (2016) – $21.7 million[9]
  • Series B (2018) – $45.5 million[10]
  • Series C (2019) – $65 million[11]
