Contrast Security is a application security company based in Los Altos, California and Baltimore, Maryland.[2][3] The company produces a "self-protecting" security software for enterprise software applications.[4] The company's software protects against OWASP top ten vulnerabilities among others.[5] As of December 2017, Contrast Security has raised over $54 million in venture funding.[6]

Overview[edit]

Contrast Security was founded by Jeff Williams and Arshan Dabirsiaghi in 2014 in Palo Alto, California. The pair formerly served as the CEO and founder, and research director, respectively at Aspect Security, a Columbia, Maryland-based security company.[7] In April 2015, Contrast opened a development office in the Canton neighborhood in Baltimore.[8][9] Contrast Security products assess software for vulnerabilities and protect applications against attacks. The platform uses instrumentation to enable Interactive Application Security Testing (IAST) and Runtime Application Self-Protection (RASP).[10][11]

In October 2017, the company raised $30 million in Series C venture funding from Battery Ventures, General Catalyst and Acero Capital.[12] Microsoft Ventures and AXA Strategic ventures invested in the company in December 2017 as an extension of the funding round.[13]

Reception[edit]

From 2014 through 2018, Contrast Security was included in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Application Security Testing.[14] The company also received a Stevie Award in the Software category.[15]
