Coodle is an arch-shaped foam pillow with a reinforced internal structure.[1] The purpose of this structure is to prevent pressure from pressing down on the arm, thereby eliminating numbness.[2] It is produced by MeadeCom, an American company, and sold internationally.[3] The company is family-owned and operated, founded by Robert and Shirley Meade, who also designed the pillow.[4][5]

History

The idea for Coodle was born when Robert Meade was lying with his girlfriend, with his arm underneath her, watching TV. As stated on the company’s website, “He cut foam and bent plastic in his oven until he came up with a tunnel-shaped pillow.”[6] He named it the "Coodle" and received a utility patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office.[7][8][9][10]

They started a business selling the pillow at a local swap meet. Years later, they founded the company to further develop the technology.[11]

Overview

Coodle is designed to make spooning more comfortable.[12] The tunnel-shaped pillow creates space between the arm of the “big spoon” and the head of the “little spoon,” allowing both parties to rest comfortably.[13][14][15] There are four arched plastic braces covered in foam inside the pillow, which allow the pillow to retain its shape during use. Coodle also works for solo sleepers, or anyone who likes to watch TV, sleep, or read books on their side with their arm supporting their head.[16][17]

Coodle has a variety of therapeutic applications and can be helpful in maintaining good posture by being placed behind the back. It can also be placed under knees and ankles after surgery.[16]

The pillow is currently available in two different sizes in the U.S. and U.K.[18][19]
