Corey Flynn Cox is a British racing driver who races in the Whilton Mill Juniors Champs Series[1] for the Team COX kart racing team. Cox is a 3-time Endurance Champion and a Summer 2018 Season Runner-up.

Racing Career[edit | edit source]

Cox started his racing career at the young age of six where he started in the Whilton Mill Bambinos Academy[2]. This is where he first learnt his race craft. Cox quickly progressed up through the Bronze, Silver and Gold Bambino groups and moved up to the Novice Cadet class when he was eight years of age. He soon moved up and was driving in the Intermediate Cadet group, the final stage before the championship group. By the age of nine, Cox was competing against the club's elite drivers in the Championship group, informally named 'Champs'.

The Championship Group - 'Champs'[edit | edit source]

In the championship group, Cox is the holder of 23 trophies to date. He is a 3-time Endurance Champion, and was the 2018 Summer season's Runner-up. To this day, he is also the Driver who has been at the club for the longest - in Champs for a total of four years, completing 8 seasons all together; and has been attending the club for an overall total of 8 years - earning him the nickname 'the Veteran'.

'A Race He'll Never Forget'[3][edit | edit source]

On the 24th November 2016, Round 4 of the Winter Season of the series, brought a white blanket of snow that covered the circuit. Drivers and crew alike came together to help clear the track of the snow but even with the majority of it cleared, the conditions were slippery and an overall danger to drive on. Everyone was preparing for the race to be suspended but the Race Directors agreed that the circuit was safe enough to drive on and the race went on. The drivers warmed their gloves on electric heaters preparing for the cold winter air to freeze their hands stiff. Cox won all bar one heat, which positioned him second on the grid. The drivers lined up and watched for the flag. The flag dropped and number 11 - in first at the time - did not get away from the start very well and span out and as a result turning him so he was facing backwards. All of the drivers screamed past the number 11 putting him down in fourth with Cox in first. The drivers in second and third got delayed by battling for position letting Cox run away with the win with second place 4 seconds behind. Eight weeks later and the same conditions cursed the track leaving the same outcome - Cox coming out on top with second place nowhere to be seen.
