Corey Wayne Moraes (born 14 April 1970) is a Canadian Artist from the Tsimshian heritage. A self-taught artist who has worked with multiple artists including Dwayne Simeon, Robert Davidson, David Boxley, and D. Robert Boxley. Throughout his career he has built a reputation for his artwork to be seen in the collection of multiple galleries and publications in North America, England, and Japan.[1]

Early Life

At a young age Corey was first influenced with Northwest Coast Art watching the Haida artist Pat Dixon (1938-2015) who carved argillite and silver jewellery in his time. Corey views art as a form of communication or speaking; having something to say and using the artwork as his method of saying it. Later on, in an effort to grow his devotion and understanding of the work, he took a course to learn formline which was at the time being taught by the artist Robert Davidson. Born in Seattle and growing up in a tough family life scenario, Corey had no older relatives with experience in the artform and strived to learn more about his people's culture.
