Courtland "Corky" Boozé was a City Councilman for Richmond, California. He was successfully elected on the tenth election, in 2010.

History[edit]

In the 1960s he was a drag racer. In 1972 he was the first African-American to win the Winternationals in Pomona. In the 1980s he worked as a school teacher and ran a small business.[1] He then began running for city council of Richmond, losing nine times before being elected in 2010. He was a vocal critic of mayor Irma Anderson during her tenure. Tom Butt has described him as knowing more about the happenings of Richmond especially the African-American community than anyone else. He stated that crime reduction was his number one priority.[2]

In 2012 he unveiled a drugs drop off box along with councilmen Jeff Ritterman, state senator Loni Hancock and the Richmond Police Department.[3] Boozé has worked with the community to discourage gun violence.[4] In 2016 when running for reelection he stated that he would bulldoze downtown and start over with new units.[5] During his failed 2016 reelection bid he stated he wanted to continue his tenure on the council to support Richmond BUILD (a construction training program), and Terminal One a port expansion.[6]
