CORNEX NEW ENERGY CO., LTD. (Chinese: 楚能; pinyin: chǔ néng), abbreviated as CORNEX, is a Chinese new energy technology company and lithium-ion battery manufacturer. The company specializes in the manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries for EV batteries, energy storage batteries, energy storage systems, as well as new energy BMS. CORNEX was established on August 6, 2021, and is headquartered in Wuhan, Hubei, China, and currently has three R&D and manufacturing bases in Hubei Province, which are respectively located in Wuhan, Xiaogan and Yichang. The total investment is US$20 billion, the planning area is over 6 million square meters, and the planning capacity is over 350GWh.
History
CORNEX was founded in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, which is reflected in its Chinese name and Chinese pronunciation: chǔ néng. The first Chinese character “楚chǔ” is from the Jingchu region, “能néng” comes from energy and also represents strength, power and technology. The English name CORNEX means CORE ENERGY·LEADING THE FUTURE·INFINITE POSSIBILITIES.
CORNEX is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hengxin Auto Group Co., Ltd., which is a large automobile dealership group in China.[1] Hengxin Auto Group ranks among the top 100 private enterprises in Hubei province and top 500 private enterprises in China.[2]
Growth
August 6, 2021, CORNEX NEW ENERGY CO., LTD. was formally founded in Wuhan city, Hubei Province.
On January 18, 2022, CORNEX’s Wuhan Jiangxia Base was officially started, and the pilot line of the New Materials Institute was completed and put into operation in May 2022.[3]
On January 28, 2022, Hengxin CORNEX New Energy lithium-ion battery industrial park project was successfully signed in Wuhan.[4]
On May 8, 2022, CORNEX’s Xiaogan Base was officially started and Phase I scheduled for mass production in April 2023.[5]
On May 10, 2022, Yichang government and CORNEX NEW ENERGY CO., LTD. signed a cooperation agreement for the CORNEX (Yichang) lithium battery industrial park project.[6]
On May 28, 2022, CORNEX held its first product-CORNEX I release conference in Wuhan.[7]
On August 28, 2022, CORNEX’s Yichang Base was officially started and Phase I scheduled for mass production in June 2023.[8]
On December 5, 2022, CORNEX released the “Submerge” battery safety system.[9]
