The Corso helicopter crash was the crash of a Spanish civil helicopter at Corso, Algeria, on 17 August 2010, which killed two and injured one.[1][2]

Context[edit]

Three technicians took place aboard the aircraft of a helicopter belonging to the Spanish company Isol Air, and had the mission of cleaning the high voltage lines on behalf of the Sonelgaz company in Algeria, when the helicopter was then suddenly crushed.[3][4]

This Spanish company was under contract with the Algerian public electricity and gas company Sonelgaz for the cleaning of these high voltage lines, and the helicopter probably hit one of them before crashing.[5][6]

The three technicians perform such a mission periodically in Algeria, for the benefit of the Spanish company Isol Air, bound by a partnership contract with Sonelgaz.[7][8]

Crash[edit]

The crash of this helicopter took place early in the day of 17 August 2010 around 7:30 am at a place called Ben Bakhta in the suburb of the city of Corso in the Boumerdès Province within Kabylia, about fifty kilometers east of the city of Algiers.[9][10]

For unknown reasons, the helicopter made a crashing free fall, nosing straight down at the ground.[11][12]

Victims[edit]

The tally of victims of this crash consisted of a French and a Spaniard who were killed in the helicopter transporting them to repair a defective power line.[13][14]

The emergency services of the Algerian Civil Defence also noted that a third Spaniard technician was injured in this accident.[15][16]

Thus, immediately after the accident reported at around 7:30 am local (6:30 am GMT), the civil protection services went to the place where they evacuated the victims to the Boumerdès hospital.[17][18]

The only injured survivor then received the necessary first aid before being evacuated to the nearby Thénia hospital in a state of coma to the emergency department of this hospital.[19][20]
