From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Cosmopolitan Philippines is the Philippine affiliate of Cosmopolitan, the international fashion magazine franchise, and is directed mainly toward Filipino women readers. Cosmopolitan Philippines is one of the 64 international Cosmopolitan editions licensed by Hearst Corporation based in New York. The magazine was launched in May 1997 by its publisher Summit Media, with Myrza Sison as the first editor-in-chief.

Cosmopolitan Philippines became the second magazine launched by Summit Media (after Preview magazine) and the first licensed magazine title in the Philippines from Hearst Corporation. The magazine launched its digital platform, Cosmo.ph, in June 2008. The brand transitioned to a purely digital strategy in June 2018, after it published its final print issue in May 2018.[1]

History

Cosmopolitan Philippines was launched in May 1997 with French model and actress Laetitia Casta as the magazine's first cover girl. Myrza Sison led the editorial team as editor-in-chief.

In October 1999, actress and former MTV VJ Donita Rose became the first Filipino to be featured on Cosmopolitan Philippines’ cover. Zo Aguila took over as editor-in-chief in 2005, and she held the position until September 2011. The first anniversary issue under Aguila was in May 2006, featuring Filipino actress Judy Ann Santos.

In November 2011, Myrza Sison returned to Cosmopolitan Philippines as Editorial Director and Editor-in-Chief and kicked off her comeback with a Carla Abellana cover. In November 2014, former Cosmo.ph Managing Editor Jillian Gatcheco became the website’s first Editor-in-Chief, marking a shift in the brand’s content strategy towards being digital-first.

Former Candy Magazine Editor-in-Chief Marla Miniano succeeded Myrza Sison in 2016, with the January 2017 issue featuring Kathryn Bernardo as her first issue as print Editor-in-Chief.

Some milestone brand campaigns, editorial series, and events include the now-defunct Cosmo Bachelor Bash, Cosmo Confessions, Cosmopolitan Beauty awards and Cosmo Summer Bucket List, Fun Fearless Life (Manila, Cebu, and office tour series: 2015-2017), and 8 Sexiest Models. The brand celebrated its 20th anniversary on May 19, 2017.

Some supplements and spinoffs launched in the magazine’s 21-year history were COSMOMEN (a September issue supplement, coinciding with the Bachelor Bash), Cosmo Career (distributed to BPOs), and Cosmo Beauty (a beauty supplement).

On April 11, 2018, Summit Media announced the impending closure of its last six printed magazines: Cosmopolitan, FHM, Preview, Top Gear, Town and Country (all relegated to their online portals) and Yes! (relegated to Philippine Entertainment Portal). Cosmopolitan Philippines' final print issue was its 21st anniversary issue in May 2018, with Julie San Jose on the cover.
