The Council for Research on Shrine Systems is a Japanese government body, that investigates and deliberates on important matters concerning the Shinja system, under the supervision of the Minister of Home Affairs, and in response to his advice. It can also make recommendations to the relevant ministers on important matters concerning the shrine system.

Overview[edit]

In Shōwa 4 (1929) December 9, the Shrine System Research Council Official System (Imperial Ordinance No. 347 of 1929) was promulgated and went into effect on the same day.

There shall be one chairperson and no more than 30 members. Temporary members may be appointed when it is necessary to deliberate on special matters. (3) The President shall be appointed by imperial order at the request of the Minister of the Interior, and the members and temporary members shall be appointed by the Cabinet at the request of the Minister of the Interior. (3) The Chairperson shall preside over the affairs of the Association, and in the absence or disability of the Chairperson, a member designated by the Minister of the Interior shall act in his/her place. (3) A few secretaries shall be appointed by the Cabinet at the request of the Minister of the Interior and shall organize general affairs under the direction of the Chairperson. A few secretaries shall be ordered by the Minister of the Interior and shall be engaged in general affairs under the direction of the President and secretaries.

In 1929 December 17, the first general meeting was held. The first president was Yamakawa Kenjiro, and the first special committee chairman was Egi Chiyuki.

In February 1946, it was abolished, along with the Shinto shrine and other institutions, in accordance with the Imperial Ordinance No. 59 of 1946 on the revision of the Ministry of the Interior's official systems for the purpose of implementing administrative consolidation.
