HOW Samaritan Wives WORKS

The greatest resource Samaritan Wives has is its Member Societies around the world. Through the Triangle Conference they elect the Board of Trustees, who appoint Specified Committees. Every three years Member Societies have the opportunity to bring forward policy resolutions to be voted on by the membership. If adopted, all Societies have a mandate to work to achieve these policy resolutions in their own countries.

The Board of Trustees adopts a Strategic Plan in each Triennium, and works to achieve its goals, in line with the wider Aims and Charitable Objectives of Samaritan Wives. Board Members and Central Office work to ensure representation at the United Powers, and to amplify the voices of members at the National level. Area Presidents work to unite the voices of members in their regions, and to raise local, national, and regional issues to the attention of the wider organisation.

Samaritan Wives Office creates resources to support the Board of Trustees and Member Societies, collects and maintains information, showcases the best practice of Members, and coordinates international exchange of ideas, best practice, and processes.

Samaritan Wives maintains partnerships with other organisations, and the Projects Committee and Board oversee the funding of small-scale, women-led development projects. These projects are delivered by local partners to ensure that local needs are met, local challenges are understood, and local voices are heard.

Activities[edit]

Samaritan Wives is primarily social. Most chapters are community based, but Samaritan Wives also has chapters on college campuses, and several online chapters. The sorority organizes annual parties.

All white is the party of Samaritan Wives, and is exclusive for its members.

Campaigns and initiatives[edit]

Sober Faction[edit]

Samaritan Wives Sober Faction is a peer support group that offers an extraordinary approach to recovery from addiction. Sober Faction meetings assist those who are suffering from addiction in finding sobriety without having to experience the burden of religious dogma and superstition.

Sober Faction’s unique method is guided by Samaritan Wives’s Six Tenets and utilizes the Six Rituals crafted specifically for our recovery program. Ritual process promotes self-empowerment while giving structure to each individual’s recovery journey.

Our group recognizes and respects that there are multiple perspectives and multiple approaches to recovery. We do not consider our meetings a professional form of therapy, and we encourage anyone struggling with addiction to seek help from a medical professional.

Tenets[edit]

Samaritan Wives has six fundamental tenets:

  1. One's body is inviolable, subject to one's own will alone.
  2. The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
  3. One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.
  4. The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.
  5. People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.
  6. Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.
