Plot

Business is a part of life in which everyone engages for some sort of profit return. A business operates between many factors, such as suppliers, dealers, competitors, bankers, customers, and so on. Therefore, this is a story about competitors that takes place in Madras, Tamil Nadu.

June 26th, 2015:

Abarna, a woman from a middle-class family and a widow with no sons, started a business/entrepreneurial venture to support her family. She started a hotel in Madras. Usually, many businesspersons try to establish businesses in areas with large markets or public presence. Abarna also established a business near other hotels. Abarna began creating innovative food recipes, different from those found in other hotels. She made every food item in a way that everyone loved eating it many times. As a result, competitors did not seem to affect her, as all of her old customers who had been loyal customers in the past began to frequent her hotel. The competitors' egos wanted to create a trap so that customers would stop going to her hotel.

(July 13th) That night, they added a harmful substance to the food. Abarna was unaware of the incident as she continued to serve customers. Everyone started complaining of nausea, and doctors confirmed that the food contained something harmful. After knowing the truth, all customers began to shift to other hotels. Thus, the other hotel managers who had trapped Abarna were successful.

(September 17th, 2015) Abarna sought help from her cousin, Srinivas, who ran a cracker business. Srinivas advised her to start a cracker business next to his shop. She started a cracker business. In the cracker industry, Abarna maintained good time management, without delaying any dealers and causing inconvenience to them. She ensured every task was completed with loyalty. She maintained a good work environment for the workers, paying salaries and allowances on time every month. Because of this, she attracted many dealers for cracker sales, especially for marriage events. In contrast, Srinivas's coworkers and workers began shifting to Abarna's business due to delayed salaries, no festival allowances, repeated blaming, overtime work without payment, etc. Dealers and other suppliers also slowly began to move to Abarna's cracker shop. Seeing all this, Srinivas became jealous and angry. His anger turned into revenge and ego. He decided to create an incident that would cause her complete failure and closure of her business. As Abarna's profits increased daily, she felt that the profits would allow her to quickly get married for her daughters. Then Diwali arrived.

(November 10th, 2015)

The day before Diwali, she moved all her stored stock from the inventory to her shop. She acquired more than 500,000 crackers, locked them securely, and left. In contrast, Srinivas planned to set fire to all the crackers by pouring fuel onto them at night. He paid some thieves to show them the shop where fuel had to be poured and destroy the entire shop. However, the thieves mistakenly poured fuel and set fire to Srinivas's own shop. The act was observed by the city people and informed both Abarna and Srinivas. Srinivas was delighted that Abarna's shop was destroyed. He believed all customers would come to his shop for Diwali purchases. Then, cousin Abarna arrived at his house and informed him that his shop had been completely destroyed. Srinivas was shocked to see his shop entirely burned, and he had lost more than 10,000,000 in stock. He said, "Making a rod for himself it's own back".

Summary

Competitors are a part of business where learning from innovations, techniques, and strategies is important. However, it is not acceptable to bring them down by resorting to ego, revenge, or traps. Many business and company owners have competitors. (Examples: Nokia vs Samsung, Colgate vs Pepsodent, Google vs Yahoo). But, during their professional and business dealings, they are friendly with each other. Another moral is to support and help growing women entrepreneurs. India has lagged in supporting women entrepreneurs, and women entrepreneurs can also contribute to economic growth.

Critics and Reviews

On Women's Day, Author Dadagari quoted a review as: "You (Entrepreneurs) Go and make friendship with the enemies in a field but still all enemies crowd I (God) will be support you."
