Crimewatch was a New Zealand television programme that reconstructed major unsolved crimes in order to gain information from the public which may assist in solving the case. The programme was originally broadcast on TVNZ from 1987 until 1996 and was replaced by Crimescene which was aired in 1997 and 1998.
Calls to the show's special phoneline helped police solve approximately 1,400 cases.[1]

Based on the BBC Crimewatch format in the United Kingdom, it was shown once a month on TV One at 8.30pm on a Tuesday with a Crimewatch Update aired at around 11pm. In its first year, Crimewatch was shown on fourth Mondays at 8pm before moving to fourth Tuesdays at 8pm in 1988 and 8.30pm from 1989 until mid-1996.
