Career Life[edit]

Crispy T formerly known as Tikk’n T-Doe (birth name: Thato Keikelame) is a South African musician, radio presenter and music industrialist who was born in SOWETO, Gauteng on the 9th of June 1983. Crispy T later moved around but spent most of his childhood in a town called Alberton located on the south-east of Johannesburg (Ekurhuleni). Thato completed high school at Marian College, then went on to study at the University of Johannesburg and UNISA. While at university Crispy T was always gifted with expression and storytelling and took an interest to rapping. He then adopted the name Tikk’n T-Doe which was derived from his love of the rap groups The Hot Boys and the St Lunatics. He recorded his first mixtape in 2003 as a demo submission for record label consideration. Unfortunately the whole demo project was deleted by a computer virus attack and since it was not saved on hard disc, it could not be retrieved. The loss of the project did not stop him completely, all that it did was serve as “reflection time” until he figured what to do next in his music career. Completing university was his priority so that he could get a job to finance his music.

At this point he also planned around working with his DJ school friend Paul Nordic to start a duo collab project called “Nor-Tik” (which was a merger of both parties aliases) ! The project never came about for various reasons and it dawned on him that he was now on his own. What Crispy T gathered around this stage was acquire knowledge on djing from Paul Nordic. Strange enough the plan to finance his music did not pan out the way he thought it would! Personal circumstances had since made him detour to focus in on further postgraduate studies, understanding business reports and legal processes, all thanks to the exposure he had received in professional services and working in paralegal. With all this knowledge starting to supercede his musical skills he chose to let go of an unfulfilling career path and then decided to pursue his passion of music again. He scratched up on his rap skills and worked with Chef Izzy, Master Chef Toast and a few others.

He started out by founding the label Lavatory Records. From there he turned Lavatory Records into a platform for indie artists to promote their music. He also delved into A&R (Artist and Repertoire) by managing various acts, chief among those was Pretoria based punk rapper Tre. From 2017 he dropped the Tikk’n T-Doe alias and went with the Crispy T moniker, as he took an interest in compiling music and voicing his opinions on the airwaves. He compiles mainly Latin-Electro music, tropical house and Drum and Bass despite his first love being rap and hip music. The other reason why half of his name was T-Doe was an ode to the love of latin culture and also that people call him “Tito” (which goes for anybody named Thato). This Crispy T name was given to him by his good friend Mpho Hleza (who also helped him out in forming Lavatory Records) - because of his outlandish opinions and social commentary. Since then he has gone on to help Tre turn TnT Productions into TnT Corporation, which is the umbrella company for 012_TnT Radio! Crispy T doubles up on the radio station as a co-host on the TnT show alongside Trizzy Tre himself. He also has a solo segment called the “Crispy T-Mack Attack” which focuses on concepts around love and relationships, which is completely unlike him! However in discomfort lies growth, this is where Crispy T sees himself evolving in terms of music production, training and educational facilitation. In line with one of his favourite video game series… he’s getting up to the “Master League” in terms of his “Pro Evolution”!
