Critical Instruction

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Critical Instruction is the explicit and critical explanation of how to connect and integrate the objectives, processes, and consequences within subject matter topics in ways that concurrently develop critical thinking, reading, and writing abilities in all students.[1] Critical Instruction is the most fundamental of all critical operations; thinking, reading and writing. The explanation was developed and is heavily influenced by Victor P. Maiorana.[2] Critical instruction provides the conceptual foundation for critical thinking, reading, and writing when explaining and learning new and revisited the subject matter. Unlike Instructional theory, it reflects the human being’s innate, critical, and natural science of the mind, better known as Mind grammar in Critical Instruction.[3]

Etymology[edit]

In the term Critical Instruction, the word critical, (Grk. κριτικός = kritikos = "critic") derives from the word critic and stands for involving the objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgement.[4]

Definitions[edit]

Critical Instruction is different than literacy instruction. Literacy instruction builds "a student's comprehension, writing skills, and overall skills in communication"[5] to reach expected literacy benchmarks.[6] Critical Instruction is an explanation that focuses on the methods of development of critical operations of thinking, reading, and writing.
