Crossing Borders is a Christian, faith-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Glenview, Illinois, United States. The organization is dedicated to helping North Korean refugees who cross the border into China for food and medical assistance. Crossing Borders provides medical care, emotional healing, and spiritual counseling to North Korean refugees hiding in China, as well as supports children whose North Korean mothers have been forcibly repatriated back to North Korea or have abandoned them. The organization also founded a safe house in South Korea, the Elim House, in 2020 for hurt and abused North Korean women and their families who have passed through Hanawon, which serves as a temporary housing solution for North Korean women in crisis identified by local churches and Hana Centers that help defectors in their day-to-day life for a smoother transition into South Korean society.
The mission of Crossing Borders is to show the compassion of Christ to North Koreans and their children whether or not they accept the same religious beliefs.
