Crowchild Classic

The Crowchild Classic is an annual athletic competition between the University of Calgary Dinos and the Mount Royal University Cougars in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Held annually since Mount Royal joined the U SPORTS association in 2012, the series consists of regular season Canada West games in the sports of basketball, ice hockey, soccer, and volleyball.[1]

The winner of the competition receives 'The Medal' - a 68-kg City of Calgary manhole cover for display on their campus. Since the first series in the 2012-13 season, the Dinos have won four of the five titles, with the 2014-15 edition ending in a tie.[2]

Saddledome Hockey Games[edit]

Each year, the Calgary Flames host an ice hockey doubleheader at the Scotiabank Saddledome to celebrate the Crowchild Classic. The Saddledome games own the U SPORTS attendance record for a hockey game between two Canadian universities when 12,859 fans witnessed the 2016 edition.[3]
