Cruella is an upcoming American fantasy film directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, Kelly Marcel, and Jez Butterworth, based on the Disney character Cruella de Vil. It will star Emma Stone as the titular villainess.[2][3]

Cast[edit]

Production[edit]

A live-action Cruella de Vil film was announced in 2011.[5] Andrew Gunn will produce the film,[6] while Kelly Marcel will re-work a script originally written by Aline Brosh McKenna. On January 6, 2016, Emma Stone was cast in the titular role of Cruella de Vil.[2] In August 2016, Jez Butterworth was hired to rewrite the previous draft of the film.[7] In November 2016, it was reported that Disney had hired Alex Timbers to direct the live-action adaptation, which Marc Platt would produce.[8] However, in December 2018, it was revealed that Timbers had left the film due to scheduling conflicts and so Craig Gillespie would instead direct the film.[9] In March 2019, it was reported that Tony McNamara would polish the previous version of the screenplay, specifically to do some "character work" and what is called "script doctoring", being the first man to do so. Meanwhile, Nicole Kidman was the top choice for the Baroness - the lead villain role. Additionally, Emma Thompson, Charlize Theron, Julianne Moore, and Demi Moore, were in consideration for the part. [10]

The film is expected to begin principal production in the United Kingdom in the summer of 2019.[11] [12]
