Crystal Creature
The Crystal Creature is an agglutinated animal first discovered by American paleontologist and professor of geology Mark McMenamim. Formally described in 2017 as from the Late Proterozoic Clemente Formation biota, the "Crystal Creature" is characterized by its “array of tourmaline crystals [cemented] to its dorsal surface”.[1] The Crystal Creature is the earliest known example of agglutination, and the earliest known bioaccumulation of tabular crystals of the same mineral.[1] This animal is purposely left in open nomenclature by McMenamim pending discovery of a better articulated specimen.
