Cuarinta is one of 12 Barangays of the municipality of San Jose, Dinagat Islands, Philippines. The barangay is north of the town proper of San Jose, in the Southern portion of the province.[1]

The barangay hosts the Cuarinta Elementary School which was established, January 01, 1986 and is part of the Dinagat Island Division.[2]
History[edit]
Elders said that, long time ago Cuarinta wasn’t the name of the place, it was named before as “Kaitan” or “Pulang Yuta” by the locals it includes the area of “Bugtong Lubi” and was a sitio of Barangay Wilson. Soon, upon the words of Divine Master Ruben E. Ecleo Sr. the supreme founder of PBMA, told 13 families who live in Barangay Bagong Silang to transfer and live in that “Kaitan” place. As time pass, a lot of families choose to live in that place that was the moment when Barangay Cuarinta was acknowledge by the LGU as a new barangay of San Jose Municipality The locals said that the place was named after the myth that the place has. Long time ago, there was once an old man who lives in this place that they called as “kaitan” for 40 years or “Cuarenta” years in their terminology. Also the transportation fee from San Jose to “Kaitan” in a motorcycle is “cuarenta”, the reason why that when the place was able to become a barangay they name it after the years that the first old man lives in that place and the transportation fee from san Jose to “kaitan” (G21, 2021).
