Culture Trip is a London-based global media and technology startup.[1]. It was founded in 2011 by Dr Kris Naudts, a former psychiatrist[2].

Overview[edit]

Culture Trip has offices in London, New York City and Tel Aviv[3]. The content on its website, app and social channels is created by more than 300 paid contributors based around the world[4]. These freelancers include writers, filmmakers, photographers, illustrators and animators who cover topics such as food, art, music, books, film and design in their locations[5].

As of March 2018, Culture Trip’s website receives 12.5 million unique visitors a month and it has 4.3 million Facebook followers[6].

Funding[edit]

Culture Trip raised $2 million in seed funding[7]. In October 2016, the PPF Group invested $20 million in the company following its Series A funding round[8]. This fund is managed by Czech billionaire Petr Kellner[9].

Online travel agency[edit]

Culture Trip announced in March 2018 that it would be launching an online travel agency later in the year[10].

Technology[edit]

Dr Naudts has stated that he wants to introduce voices of underrepresented people and cultures to mass media by using artificial intelligence technologies[11]

In the press[edit]

Simon Calder, travel editor at The Independent, described Culture Trip in March 2018 as “Lonely Planet as it might be created in the 21st century”.[12]
