Cunucu Dogs

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Cunucu dog is a mixed breed of dog originating from and found on the island nation of Aruba. It is believed that in the 16th century, Portuguese slave-traders arriving in Aruba brought with them the Portuguese Podengo or Ibizan Hounds, and their dogs and the native dogs of the indigenous Caiquetio tribe interbred, giving rise to the streetdogs and strays that are known today as Cunucu dogs. It is also believed that Cunucus were employed to hunt iguanas, which were a valuable source of protein.
