Cupid's Chocolates (Chinese: 爱情巧克力; Àiqíng qiǎokèlì) is a Chinese animation metaseries created and produced by Tencent.[1]
Plot
The story focuses on a university freshman, Jiang Haoyi, who always wants to live a normal life and not be focused on as much as possible. However, after accidentally eating a chocolate cake, which turns out to be a cupid's cake, he has become involved in a number of problems with other girls, who have been falsely memorized by the cake for having love affairs with him. To protect himself, he has to require help from Mei Ta Ta, a love Goddess, to solve all problems by helping these girls achieve their wishes, or he'll be cursed by it forever.
Characters
- Jiang Haoyi (江浩一)
- Voiced by Chen Dawei
- Main character of the series. A university freshman and son of a police family, which makes him a highly-responsible person. Haoyi, however, only wants to have a normal life as much as possible. However, after accidentally eating a cursed cupid cake, he causes himself to have unwanted love affairs with many girls whom he has no idea about. To solve these problems, he has to help these girls to achieve their wishes or he will be cursed forever.
- Mei Ta Ta (梅塔塔)
- Voiced by Gui Niang
- A female Love Goddess who was sent to help Haoyi. She is a rookie Goddess, whose magic is not stable and often out of control, which causes Haoyi so many problems. Nonetheless, she often helps Haoyi to solve problems together. Later, she realizes she has feelings for Haoyi.
- Xia Zitong (夏紫瞳)
- Voiced by Feng Junhua
- A rich girl from a wealthy family but often feels alone because of her father's business. She is the first person to become involved with Haoyi, stating she is pregnant with him, which almost costs Haoyi's life; and she is also the first person who is helped by Haoyi after he asks for her father to pay more attention to Zitong due to her loneliness. After that, she has feelings for Haoyi, but is too shy to admit it.
- Tang Xuan (唐萱)
- Voiced by Yang Ou
- She is a leader of the university's sports team. On one side, she portrays herself as a strong and responsible girl who often treats her fellow boys in the team very harshly; but on the other side, she is an anime lover and cosplay girl but often gets bullied. She is Haoyi's second problem. After being found by Haoyi and Zitong, Tang Xuan has initially tried to deny her habit, but after help from Haoyi and Zitong, she has changed and becomes friendlier; while her popularity also increases following it. She also has feelings for Haoyi from then.
- Lin Yuan (林淵)
- Voiced by Gui Yue
- She is a bookworm in the university, but she has a very tragic childhood. Her biological father, who was a policeman and supposed to marry her mom, was killed on duty and her father's brother had to assume all responsibility, eventually accepting to marry her mother illegally and facing anger from his parents. She is the third problem, who thinks Haoyi is the father of two of her brothers. Later, Haoyi rescues her from facing a car crash, resulting in him being injured but eventually helping her free from it.
- Ouyang Xueli (歐陽雪梨)
- Voiced by Cu Cu
- She's Haoyi's childhood friend who often wants to compete with him, and eventually falls in love with him even after she left for the United States for study, but Haoyi only sees Xueli as a friend. She has tensions with her mother, who disapproves of her relationship with Haoyi to a point she is eager to challenge her mom and attempts to gain affection from Haoyi, although she often ends up beaten by her experienced mother. She often scares Haoyi by her sexual habits, a cold-blooded gaze and a sword ready to threaten anyone getting close to Haoyi.
- Ji Ran (季然)
- Voiced by Feng Junhua
- She's the teacher at the university and neighbor of Jiang Haoyi. Haoyi regards her as the first person who truly cares for him, and she also shares the same love for him as well. Although she tends to have a sexual habit somehow, Haoyi and Miss Ji nonetheless have a good relationship.
