A Cyber Warfare Engineer (CWE) in the United States Navy is a direct commission Restricted Line Officer. The community is not to be confused with the Information Warfare Officer community (formerly Cryptology Officer) as the warfare disciplines are separate and distinct. When operating normally a Cyber Warfare Engineer will take on and tackle such topics as:
- CNA
- Exploitation
- DCO
In addition to the above listed topics a Cyber Warfare Engineer has a deep understanding of computer science, various programming languages, operating systems and computer architecture, networking and security. Currently Cyber Warfare Engineers are afforded tours of duty at the Navy Cyber Warfare Development Group (NCWDG), the National Security Agency (NSA) and FLT Cyber/US Tenth Fleet.
