Cycle & Carriage Malaysia is an automotive retail, wholesale distribution, and aftersales maintenance group operating in Malaysia. Founded in 1899, the enterprise operates as a subsidiary of Singapore-listed holding company Jardine Cycle & Carriage Limited, a constituent member of the Jardine Matheson Group. The company manages retail sales, distribution, and maintenance networks for Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot, Leapmotor, and Kia.
History and Corporate Evolution
Colonial Origins (1899–1920s)
The company was established in 1899 by brothers Chua Cheng Bok, Chua Cheng Tuan, and Chua Cheng Liat as Federal Stores on High Street (Jalan Bandar) in Kuala Lumpur, British Malaya. Initially operating as a general sundries establishment trading in daily provisions, hardware, and spices, the owners subsequently transitioned the enterprise into the importation and distribution of bicycles and early motor vehicles under the name Cycle & Carriage.
In 1918, the business was registered as a private limited liability company within the Federated Malay States with a registered capital of $250,000. In 1926, it underwent public incorporation in Singapore as The Cycle & Carriage Company (1926) Limited, relocating its headquarters to Orchard Road with an increased capital base of SG$5 million.[1]
Post-War Recovery and Franchise Expansion (1930s–1960s)
Following operations disruptions during the Second World War, Cycle & Carriage resumed commercial distribution. In 1951, the firm secured the exclusive distribution franchise for Mercedes-Benz passenger and commercial vehicles across Malaya and Singapore.
During the 1960s, to align with regional industrialization and import-substitution policies, the company established local vehicle assembly facilities, including an assembly footprint in Tampoi, Johor. In 1969, the enterprise executed an initial public offering (IPO) on the joint Stock Exchange of Malaysia and Singapore.[2]
Restructuring and Jardine Integration (1970s–Present)
Following the administrative division of the regional stock exchange, the localized Malaysian operational arm was listed as Cycle & Carriage Bintang Berhad on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (Bursa Malaysia) in 1977.
In 2002, Hong Kong-based conglomerate Jardine Matheson acquired a controlling interest in the parent company, leading to the parent entity's renaming as Jardine Cycle & Carriage Limited in 2004.[3]

Mercedes-Benz
Cycle & Carriage has represented Mercedes-Benz in Malaysia since 1951. The group operates a nationwide network of sales and service facilities ("Autohauses") across the Malaysian peninsula. Designated major facilities—including those in Batu Caves, Bukit Tengah, and Johor Bahru—hold certified "Centre of Competence" status, equipped to perform structural collision repairs and authorized diagnostic servicing.
Peugeot
In August 2024, Cycle & Carriage entered a dealer partnership agreement with Stellantis Malaysia to integrate the Peugeot brand into its active retail operations.[4] The company operates multi-brand sales and technical hubs in Batu Caves, Cheras, and George Town, providing sales and aftersales maintenance across Peugeot passenger cars and commercial vehicles.
Leapmotor
In 2024, Cycle & Carriage expanded into new energy vehicle (NEV) retail by partnering with Stellantis Malaysia to represent Leapmotor, an electric vehicle joint venture between Stellantis and Leapmotor International. On 4 June 2026, Cycle & Carriage assumed nationwide distribution rights and dealer network management for Leapmotor in Malaysia.[5] The vehicle catalog includes the Leapmotor C10 SUV and the B10 crossover. The flagship 3S center in Glenmarie, Selangor, functions as a high-voltage facility equipped for electric vehicle battery maintenance and repairs.
Kia
In May 2026, Kia Malaysia appointed Cycle & Carriage Malaysia as an authorized dealer partner within its domestic distribution network.[6] In July 2026, the company opened a flagship Kia 3S Centre in Glenmarie, Selangor, featuring a showroom and an adjacent service department equipped with 20 work bays and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Corporate Sustainability
In September 2023, the Cycle & Carriage Mutiara Damansara Autohaus achieved the GreenRE Silver Rating for existing non-residential buildings, becoming the first automotive dealership in Malaysia to attain this certification.[7] The facility incorporated energy-efficient air-conditioning, low-heat LED lighting, waste minimization initiatives, and priority parking equipped with electric vehicle charging stations.[7]
