Dannyboy is the pseudonym of Daniel Novotny, Czech graphic designer and illustrator based in Prague, whose work has gained popularity among LGBT subculture. He is best known for his recent work on various projects raising awareness of HIV/AIDS threat.[1][non-primary source needed]
Biography
Life and work
Daniel Novotny was born and raised in Chrudim, Czech Republic. After studying digital design in Hradec Kralove, he moved to the capital, Prague. At that time, he started painting and four years later he attended Academy of Fine Arts, Prague. After one year, he left the academy due to strong disagreement with the direction of the studio. During those years he worked as a graphic designer for various corporate companies.
His early paintings were primarily figurative sociological works of people, mostly LGBT, displaying their struggle in uncomfortable conditions around them, as well as inside.
After leaving the academy, he stopped painting entirely and put all his efforts into graphic design again. During the next few years he worked for a number of advertising agencies and design studios. In cooperation with Ladislav Zikmund–Lender he designed books focused on gay art "What a material!, Ladislav Zikmund–Lender", Pravý úhel, 2012, design, dtp ISBN 978-80-905271-0-2 and architecture Tři generace architektů: Václav st., Václav ml., Jan a Milan Rejchlovi." Hradec Králové : Pravý úhel, 2012, design, dtp ISBN 978-80-905271-1-9. With Roman Bayguzov [2] (currently Oh, Deer! ) he created an anti–bullying campaign for LGBT teens, Sbarvouven.cz, as well as various posters for musical events. Later he created the concept for an allegory car used to promote a Czech AIDS help society Česká společnost AIDS pomoc and then continued helping with their promotion and visual communication.
He continues exploring the theme of LGBT existence and sexuality through a series of illustrations and design experiments.
