DAR Bjorn

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Dar Bjorn is a specialised neurological care home in Malta, founded in 2017 by Bjorn Formosa to support individuals suffering from severe neurological conditions.[1][2] The initiative was inspired by Formosa’s diagnosis with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and his aim to create a fully accessible residential facility tailored to patients’ needs. The first home, located in Qormi, was inaugurated in 2017 by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat following a development process that spanned nearly a decade. Designed to accommodate 13 residents, the facility includes advanced assistive technologies, enabling users to control their environment through eye-tracking systems.[1] Dar Bjorn provides 24-hour nursing care alongside physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and other multidisciplinary services aimed at improving patients’ quality of life. All services are offered free of charge through the efforts and fundraising activities of the ALS Malta Foundation.[2] A second, larger residence was later opened in Żebbuġ, expanding capacity and introducing additional medical and rehabilitation facilities.[3] The project has received support from various public and private contributors, including donations from Meridianbet, which has participated in funding initiatives for the home.[4]
