DATAtab

DATAtab is an online statistics software. It provides a platform for performing various statistical tests, visualizing data, and generating automated reports. The tool is used in social and natural sciences, market research, health research, business analytics and technical siences for analyzing survey results, experimental data, and other quantitative datasets.[1]

Overview & Features

The software was developed in 2020 by a team of data scientists in Austria. Mathias Jesussek, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, comes from the fields of numerical mathematics and algorithms for data analysis and web development. He was born in Hamburg/Germany and studied at the Technical University of Hamburg.

Hannah Volk-Jesussek, PhD in social sciences, is a university lecturer in the field of quantitative-empirical research methods and statistics and coach for scientific writing. She was born in Graz/Austria and studied at the University of Graz.[2]

The platform supports various statistical methods. These are descriptive statistics, which help summarize data by calculating key measures such as the mean, median, standard deviation, and frequency distributions.[3]

For users conducting hypothesis testing, inferential statistics are available, including t-tests, chi-square tests, ANOVA, and correlation analysis, which help determine relationships between variables.[4]

Additionally, the tool supports regression analysis, allowing users to perform simple linear and multiple linear regression modeling. This enables to examine dependencies between variables.[5] Further data visualization options such as bar charts, histograms, scatter plots, and box plots, to identify trends and patterns are available.[6]

Applications

Quantitative methods are used in vaious empirical sciences, like social sciences (e.g. sociology, medicine, economics), natural sciences (e.g. physics, chemistry, biology) and engineering sciences (e.g. process engineering, mechanical engineering).[7]

In recent years, a variety of journal articles have been published in scientific journals using DATAtab to analyze empirical data collected in studies. These articles come from the following fields:

  • Business Analytics & Economics: Helps businesses interpret market trends and customer feedback.[8][9][10]
  • Social Sciences, Medicien & Health Care: Assists in medical research and behavioral studies.[11][12][13][14]
  • Natural sciences: Contributes to research in physics, biology, and environmental studies.[15]

Further reading

There are training programs and educational resources available for the statistical software:

  • Official Website[16]
  • Training Programs: Datatab offers training opportunities, such as those available through the Statistik Akademie by the statistics expert Daniela Keller from, which provides specialized courses for learning Datatab effectively.[17][18]
  • YouTube Channel: Informative videos explaining Datatab features and statistical methods are available on YouTube, including those from experts like Dr. Mathias Jesussek and Dr. Hannah Volk-Jesussek.[19]
  • Additional Online Resources: Other learning materials can be found on platforms such as the Bildungsserver (Educational Resource)[20], Mathematical Mysteries (Educational ressource)[21] and the Grazer Methodenkompetenzzentrum at the University of Graz in Austria[22] (Edcucational ressource).
