David Larkins (deɪvɪd),[1] better known as DG Hamblin, is a retired Georgia Law Enforcement Officer and YouTuber who produces three different channels under the screen name of DG Hamblin. He is an admittedly avowed member of the Utah based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, experienced radio DJ, and owner of LL Farms in Colbert, Georgia.[2]
Professional Life
Larkins worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the Madison County Sheriff's Office, GA until 2010.[3] While working for Madison County Sheriff's Office he was involved in two officer-involved shooting incidents. The first incident took place October 04, 2000 when a jail escappe open fire on Larkins, and 4 others officers, discharging 40 rounds from a rifle.[4][5] The second incident took place June 02, 2005 when Larkins and another officer responded to a domestic violence incident. The suspect shot at both Larkins and another responding officer, ambushing them and [6]striking the patrol car that Larkins was driving.[7] The officer who was with Larkins was shot, and Larkins removed him from the ambush.[8] Larkins worked for the Jackson County Georgia Sheriff's Office from 2010 till 2015 as a criminal investigator until he resigned (under Jackson County policy) to run for public office.[9] In 2016 he ran for Madison County Georgia Sheriff, losing to current Sheriff J. Michael Moore during the 2016 Sheriff's Republican Primary.[10][11][12] He retired from law enforcement and began to produce YouTube content[13] under the YouTube handle DG Hamblin. Larkins is also a public speaker and has appeared at events across the country such as the annual International Book of Mormon Evidence Conference.[14]
The DG Hamblin Show
The DG Hamblin Show is advertised as an attempt to find "what is interesting about the seemingly ordinary"[15] about current events through a "Constitutional"[16] perspective. He reports that he is a political conservative on his Facebook Page. He expresses both his own personal opinions and interviews with various guests on topics ranging from current events to personal political experiences. He claims to have met Mikhail Gorbachev when the former president of the Soviet Union spoke at the University of Georgia on December 1st,1999.[17][18] By Larkins' own admission, the videos are produced in a studio that is located on his farm. He has multiple places in the studio that he uses but is mostly known for his positioning with a bookcase of LDS and political books in the background.
DG Hamblin Farm Channel
DG Hamblin Farm Channel showcases Larkins' life on his multi-generational family farm.[19] He shows repairs, personal experiences about farming in the context of his farm, and common southeastern farm animals on his videos;[20] to include chickens, goats, horses, and cows. His videos are typically filmed outdoors as he is performing different tasks around the farm and surrounding area in Colbert, Georgia.
Feasting On The Word with DG Hamblin
Larkins also maintains an LDS centered religious channel where he expresses his own personal opinions through the "lens of the Book of Mormon".[21][22] He is a self-avowed member of the Utah based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and principally projects this into the videos and opinions on the channel. Many of his videos are, by his own admission, extensions of lectures and sermons that he has given in his local meetinghouse. The videos are produced in the same studio as The DG Hamblin Show with the same bookcase seen in the background.
Controversy
DG Hamblin has become known for conducting a multi-part interview in August 2024 with former Poulan police officer, John Masters, on The DG Hamblin Show. During the interview[23][24] the officer expressed personal experiences, audio recordings, and redacted copies of reports that amplified the town's reputation in the U.S State of Georgia and the United States as a speed trap with grave and severe corruption issues that had been previously documented by investigative journalists.[25][26][27][28][29][30]
Political Stance
Larkins is an admitted conservative. His videos express opinion about elections and politics in the United States from a self-admitted conservative view.[31] During the 2016 Madison County Georgia Primary for Sheriff, Larkins ran as a Republican. He lost the Primary in 2016, and has not yet run for any other public office.[32][33][34]
