DIA (Blockchain)
DIA (Decentralised Information Asset) is an open-source oracle platform that allows Web3 users to supply, share and use transparent, crowd-verified data and blockchain oracles.[1]
Background
Blockchains are networks that automatically perform transactions, also known as smart contracts, when certain conditions are met. Blockchains and smart contracts cannot access off-chain data (data that is outside of the network).
For many contractual agreements, it is vital to have relevant information from the outside world to execute the smart contract. This is where blockchain oracles come into play, as they provide a link between off-chain and on-chain data.
Oracles are vital within the blockchain ecosystem because they broaden the scope in which smart contracts can operate. Without blockchain oracles, smart contracts would have very limited use as they would only have access to data from within their networks.[2][3]
Technology
To source the data feeds, DIA creates crypto-economic incentives for members to collect and validate data from multiple on-chain sources as well as cryptocurrency exchanges at individual trade level[4]. DIA, in collaboration with IBM’s Cloud Hyper Protect Services, provides reliable data feeds avoiding attacks on hardware, servers, applications and databases by protecting its backend infrastructure.[5]
