Founded in 2016, DKDKTV is a YouTube channel related to K-POP with over 570,000 subscribers from around the world.[1] The channel is run by co-founders Danny Kim and David Kim.

Under the theme, 'Digging Deeper into the Korean Wave', DKDKTV makes content that is mainly related to K-POP and K-Culture, specifically tailored for the growing international Hallyu fanbase.

Starting from their music video explanations' K-POP—Explained by a Korean' series, all the way to their most popular weekly news segment 'DK News'— DKDKTV's content consists of vlogs, street interviews, K-POP artist interviews, explanation videos, short films, podcasts, news segments, and more. Being one of the most prominent and reliable YouTube channels related to K-POP[2], major media outlets such as CNN[3], The Washington Post[4], Billboard[5], and Al-Jazeera[6] cite their views. Danny and David have made multiple TV appearances[7], and they have also starred in the movie Korean Vibes. In 2018, DKDKTV worked with CJE&M and was invited to host multiple panels in KCON LA and KCON NY.

Danny Kim

Danny Kim (Full name: Dong-Kyum Kim) was born in Seoul on August 4, 1992. Kim grew up in South Korea until his family moved to Canada when he was in the third grade due to his father's work. Living in Canada, Kim learned to speak fluent English and was well-accustomed to the western culture. In middle school, Kim and his family moved back to South Korea, where he continued his studies at Daeil Foreign Language High School. Kim studied at Chung-Ang University, where he met his future business partner David Kim, a fellow media communications major. In 2017, Kim graduated with a bachelor's degree in media communication. As a South Korean citizen, Kim finished his two-year mandatory military service in 2015. [8] Aside from YouTube, Danny Kim is a DJ for Naver NOW radio show titled '국봉쇼'. David Kim

David Kim (Full name: Kyung-soo Kim) was born on August 29, 1992. Kim was born and raised in South Korea until his family moved to Ottawa, Canada, at age 3. At age 7, Kim moved to Baltimore, Maryland in the United States. Kim and his family returned to Busan, South Korea when he was age 10. Being fluent in both Korean and English, Kim attended a foreign language high school in Busan. After high school, Kim attended Chung-Ang University as a media communication major, where he met his business partner Danny Kim. While Kim was in Singapore as a foreign exchange student in 2015, Kim saw the potential of the Hallyu Wave and pitched the idea of starting a Hallyu related YouTube channel to his friend, Danny Kim. Seeing the limitations of being creative by working as an employee in an advertising company, Kim concluded that YouTube would be the next mainstream media platform and started his own channel. In 2016, Danny Kim and David Kim uploaded their first video on YouTube. David Kim also finished his two-year mandatory military service as police in 2015.[8] Aside from being a YouTuber, David Kim is currently studying at Yeonsei University.

YouTube

DKDKTV gained around 20,000 subscribers during its first year. In the following year, the channel started to grow exponentially—going from 20,000 to 200,000 subscribers. This substantial growth was due to the rapid increase in popularity of K-POP & BTS overseas, as well as the equally growing fanbase. DKDKTV first gained traction by filming their reactions to K-POP music videos. However, due to the limited structure format of reaction videos, DKDKTV announced the end of K-POP music video reactions on their channel in 2018. Instead, DKDKTV introduced a new series called "K-POP Explained by a Korean" where Danny & David explain K-POP lyrics line by line, digging deeper into more complicated terms, their nuance, and cultural context. Throughout the years, DKDKTV has continued to branch out, making a variety of content, including street interviews in Seoul, news commentary, interview shows, and other experimental content.
