Wilhelm Gustav Dyckerhoff (1805-1894) founded the cement company Lang & Co in Karlsruhe, Germany, and renamed to Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG (DYWIDAG)[2] in 1865.

In the late 1970s, Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG (DYWIDAG) founded the subsidiary DSI, specializing in licensing DYWIDAG products for civil engineering. DSI added product and systems development, production, and distribution for underground mining in 2000.

In 2005 IK Investment Partners (formerly known as Industri Kapital) acquired DYWIDAG-Systems International, then sold the company to CVC Capital Partners in 2007. DYWIDAG-Systems International was then purchased by BAML and Barclays Capital in 2010, who sold the company to Triton Private Equity in April 2011 for more than 400 million euros. Triton restructured and split DYWIDAG-Systems International in 2016 into two business units: DSI Construction and DSI Underground, with DSI Underground focusing on ground support products and systems for underground mining and tunneling.

In December 2020, Triton announced the sale of DSI Underground to Sandvik. Since completing the acquisition in July 2021, DSI Underground has been integrated into the new Ground Support Division of Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions.

DSI Underground Holdings S.a.r.l operates more than 20 local production facilities in 70 countries with more than 2,000 employees.
