DXAS (1116 AM), branded as 1116 DXAS Your Community Radio, is a AM radio station, owned and operated by Far East Broadcasting Company. The station's studio and transmitter are located at 3rd floor of Phidco Buliding, Veterans Avenue, Zamboanga City. This station operates on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays at 5am to 9:05pm, Tuesdays & Thursdays at 5am to 10pm, Saturdays at 5am to 9pm & Sundays at 5am to 12noon.[1][2][3][4]

History[edit]

When the erstwhile DXJO went on-air for the first time in October 1969, the station was located in Jolo, Sulu. This opened up new frontiers for missionary radio by reaching areas with large concentration of unreached people groups.

A few years later, operations were transferred to its present location in Zamboanga City and the radio station has since been renamed 1116 DXAS “Your Community Radio.” It continues to serve the western Mindanao area through programs that are relevant to the needs of diverse audiences.

One defining moment for the station happened in 1992. Two unidentified gunmen barged into the studio, killing Rev. Greg Hapalla, who was doing a live program in the Tausug dialect, Greg Bacabis, chief technician, and a listener seeking public service assistance. Such tragic experience renewed the staff’s resolve to remain committed to their calling of providing relevant radio programs that create a positive impact. Not only that. Through strategic partnerships, the station now also reaches out through endeavors that enrich communities and improve their way of life.
