Daemon Vector is an action role-playing video game released by XPEC Entertainment for the Xbox in 2004 with a later release for Microsoft Windows in 2005. The game is a gothic-styled slash fighter set in Medieval Europe during a time in which a sinister strain of the Black Plague has brought the dead back to life. Daemon Vector was initially only released within Asia but was later released in Europe. The game supported Xbox Live, which enabled players to download new stages, items, and special weapons.
Description[edit]
The game begins during the Medieval era in which European adventurers have recovered rare artifacts from Asia. One of these artifacts is cursed and transforms all nearby humans into zombies. The player takes the role of a hero to wipe out the zombies.
Daemon Vector is a classic styled hack and slash game with the camera is fixed behind the player character. Combo attacks can only be used when the player has enough special energy which is earned by performing regular attacks. The basic gameplay structure is simplistic in that the player has to clear a room of all zombies. Then he receives a key to unlock the next room.
The player can choose between playing as Asgard or Rhea. The two have different combos and character values, Asgard uses swords which are faster while Rhea prefers slower but heavier weaponry. These can be upgraded with experience points which are earned by killing enemies. After each level the player can take one of two pieces of equipment, such as a ring or a sword, which give special abilities like poison resistance.
Alternate Cover Art[edit]
In Asia the game was released with the title written in red Japanese characters while in Europe there are at least three different variants. It appears that in most of mainland Europe the game was released with the title written in a red font that loosely mimics the original Japanese cover art. In Poland there was a variant of this version with the additional wording Krolestwo Nieumarłych or Kingdom of the Undead. In the United Kingdom, and possibly Southern Europe, the game was released with a new silver variant of the logo in which rings encircle the text.
Reception[edit]
The game did not receive well reception with many citing that it was highly repetitive and antiquated by the time it was released in Europe. Some compared it to Diablo II but lacking in atmosphere. Many seemed to have issue with the camera dynamics and traditional Japanese text box styled dialogue. These negative reviews likely served as the reason that it was never released in the Americas.
