Dakota Tipi First Nation
Dakota Tipi First Nation is a Dakota First Nation located near Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada. Its primary reserve is Dakota Tipi 1.
History
The First Nation was formally recognized in 1972 following the reorganization of the settlement historically known as Sioux Village.[1] The Dakota in Manitoba were not signatories to the Numbered Treaties.[2]
Governance
Dakota Tipi First Nation is governed by an elected Chief and Council under the Indian Act. The First Nation is a member of the Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council and the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs.[3]
Demographics
According to the 2021 Canadian census, the Dakota Tipi 1 reserve recorded a population of 226 residents.[4]
