Daley Mathison (* 20 July 1991 in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England; † 3. June 2019 on the Isle of Man) was an English motorcycle racer.
Career
Daley Mathison was a frequent starter at various road races on the British Isles like the North West 200, the Southern 100, or the Isle of Man TT. In 2013, he made his debut on the Mountain Course of the Isle of Man at the Manx Grand Prix Newcomers A-Race, where he finished in fifth place. In 2014, he won with a Honda the Ultralightweight-Race at the Ulster Grand Prix in Northern Ireland. His Isle-of-Man-TT career had three podium finishes in the 2016, 2017, and 2018 at the TT-Zero-Race, including second place in 2017 behind Bruce Anstey riding for University of Nottingham. At the 2018 Superstock-TT Race, he finished in eleventh place, and in the 2017 and 2018 Senior TT Races in 13th positions both times. Mathison achieved his fastest lap on the Mountain Course in the 2018 Superstock-TT Race with an average speed of 128.054 mph (206.083 kph) and was the 34th fastest rider in the track's history up until that point. In 2018, he rode the second-fastest TT-Zero-Lap of History with an average speed of 119.294 mph (191.985 kph). Ultimately, he started 19 TT races with 14 finishes and three podiums and won six Silver- and eight Bronze-Replicas.[1]
Death
Daley Mathison died on 3 June 2019 at the age of 27 on the Isle of Man, in the third lap of the Superbike-Race of the 2019 Isle of Man TT with his BMW S 1000 RR on the Snugborough-Straight going into Union Mills. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
