Dalia E. Meisha is a Saudi Arabian orthodontist and dental public health specialist. She is Associate Professor and Consultant at the King Abdulaziz University Faculty of Dentistry in Jeddah and the first academic from outside European universities to receive the Association for Dental Education in Europe's Mature Career Educator Award for Excellence in Dental Education, in the award's 50-year history.[1][2]
Education
Meisha received her Bachelor of Dental Surgery with honors from King Abdulaziz University before pursuing graduate training at the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, where she completed a Master of Public Health, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS), and a Doctor of Science in Dentistry. She subsequently obtained certification from the American Board of Orthodontics and the American Board of Dental Public Health, and a fellowship in Artificial Intelligence in Education.[1]
Academic career
Meisha is Associate Professor and Consultant at the King Abdulaziz University Faculty of Dentistry, where her research focuses on dental public health, evidence-based dentistry, the social determinants of dental care access, occupational health among dental practitioners, and the application of artificial intelligence and natural-language processing to oral-health surveillance. As of 2026, her work has been cited more than 380 times.[3]
Her published work includes a single-author study on the social determinants of dental-care seeking behaviour during the COVID-19 pandemic in Saudi Arabia,[4] a co-authored survey of work-related musculoskeletal disorders among dentists in Jeddah,[5] a co-authored study with the Karolinska Institute on psychological symptoms and self-reported temporomandibular disorder pain in children and adolescents,[6] and a single-author large-scale sentiment analysis of social-media posts about dental pain.[7]
Awards and recognition
In 2025 Meisha received the Mature Career Educator Award for Excellence in Dental Education from the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE), announced at the association's annual meeting in Dublin. The recognition was the first time in the award's 50-year history that the prize had been presented to an academic from outside the European university system. The award panel comprised deans from leading dental schools in the United Kingdom and across Europe.[1][2]
Clinical practice
Alongside her academic role, Meisha practices orthodontics at AQUA Dent Clinics, a private dental practice in Jeddah.[8]
